Think of Oktoberfest as the Bavarian cousin of the Calgary Stampede — a vibrant celebration steeped in tradition and full of lively fun! What started as a royal wedding celebration between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese has blossomed into one of the world’s most famous festivals. Today, it’s a spectacular fair held on the “Therese’s Meadow” (Theresienwiese) right in the heart of Munich, featuring bustling beer halls, delicious Bavarian food specialties, thrilling rides, and a joyful party atmosphere that draws visitors from all over the globe.
A quick heads-up about reservations: securing a table in the beer halls—especially for evening hours—can be challenging and sometimes pricey. But don’t worry! You can still soak in the festive vibes without a reservation. Our tip: visit from Monday to Thursday in the early afternoon, find a spot in the non-reserved sections of a tent, and settle in to enjoy the lively atmosphere well into the evening. It’s a fantastic way to experience Oktoberfest like a local!
